The Legend of Zelda: Valley of the Flood? Probably Not.

19 06 2008

A “leaked interview” with Aonuma recently popped up on 4chan regarding a new Zelda title that will supposedly be unveiled at E3. The page has since been removed (scandalous!) I’m absolutely sure it’s fake but it has some pretty groovy ideas about where the franchise should go and most importantly, how it could work.

Sporting the moniker “Project Deluge” the game would take place in between Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker. Gannon rises again and the “hero” is nowhere to be found. Much has happened to Hyrule. The world has moved into a steampunk age with trains running through the massive game world. Deku muskets are the latest fashion accessory and in a small village a young man becomes obsessed with stories of old. This man has delusion of grandeur. He THINKS he’s the hero reincarnated and eventually emulates him in every way. However not being the real hero has it’s disadvantages such as no master sword or Light Arrows. Supposedly the first half of the game takes place in the steampunk world up until Gannon is confronted and Hyrule is flooded. The second half takes place in the Wind Waker world we know.Other big changes include full voice acting and a fully orchestrated soundtrack.

Aonuma: I can’t divulge too much without compromising my agreement with Iwata-san, but I can tell you that because the hero is not Link this time, there is much more flexibility in terms of storytelling. I want to stress the craziness of the hero. Because this hero is not Link, but he thinks he is Link. You remember the opening of Wind Waker, correct? Where it spoke of how Link never came to slay Ganon?

Once again this interview is definitely (probably) not real. However, I love the idea and storyline. How about you guys? What do you want from the new Zelda? The full ‘interview’ is at the link below. It’s a long read but well worth it.

Why can’t it be real? I hope it is. As a long-time loyal Zelda fan, this is exactly the direction I want the series to take… steam-punk and voice acting, orchestra and apocalyptic Majora’s Mask type themes? Not to mention the awesomeness of a new hero (or lack thereof). It’s awesome, and Nintendo better do it, if not something similar.

Oh sweet, there is a way around the No Hero of Time thing, I’m glad. Nintendo do this!

If this is true then this proves that there is without a doubt a timeline that all of the Zelda games follow..which is ALSO the only thing making me think this might be false because Nintendo’s seem to also make the games so vague that its possible to connect them but never definitve and can be seen as a stand alone game…but i’kk keep my hopes up! espically for full voice acting, lets hope they improve on Fire Emblem’s alright start

This sounds great, and after reading the interview saying that the game will be the biggest one in land in the series, I am VERY excited. I can’t wait for this game to come out if it really will. I can’t wait for E3.

mmmm… I don’t think this is real, the interview feel so fake for some reason, and…. I don’t know.. it’s just not Nintendo style to let leak info so easy about their franchise so soon, they always show their great games in huge event like E3 and with gorgeous trailers. 😀

That joke about Mario fixing the leak was really strange and makes it seem even more fake

I think it’s probably fake, but I realy hope Nintendo looks at this idea, because it looks like it would be awesome. Steampunk, voice acting character other than Link? I want it now!

Sweet merciful goddess, this game sounds amazing. I want it to be real so badly.

Well, the series does need more to it than just raiding dungeons, solving puzzles and getting a powerful new item at the end and save the Princess.
But I would rather play as Link…but if this is not real, than I’ll wait for the official word from Nintendo.

Just wanted to say this:
4chan is an imageboard.
The “page” with the interview was not removed, the thread simply died and was purged by the system.

Such threads do not last much longer than a day, if that long.

I bet they are going to ruin the steampunk world with awful artistic design. For the most part, the art design in Twilight Princess sucked. Especially the dungeons. The Skytown and the Temple of time are absolutely awful.

Proven fake, that’s artwork for a novel already out, I believe it’s called Perdido Street Station, and someone made the Zelda title on it. Here’s the original:

Gameorama91, could you please read the article fully before responding.

“Note: The image above was created by us so don’t get your hopes up about that either.”

The writer specifically stated that the image was not valid in any way.

“the game would take place in between Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker”

According to the Split Timeline Theory, Majora’s Mask takes place in the “Child Timeline” – leading to Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker is in the “Adult Timeline”. I understand it’s just a theory, but the theory makes perfect sense, it just hasn’t been officially stated. Someone made a fatal error in their attempt to fool Zelda fans, they didn’t do their research!

Well, only the fans who try to rationalize the Zelda story into some kind of “timeline”, that does not officially exist.

I dunno. It seems to un Nintendo like, but if it’s true. I’m gonna fucking shit myself. The whole idea of the story, character and setting kick ass and are EXACTLY what i would want. I kept on saying a zelda with a different main character would be sick. the sound features are what they should be…and that concept shot is fucking ill.

I’m praying, though i no the chances are like 99% not true.

This doesn,t sound very nice…the game might be good, but Zelda is not Zelda without Link.
